Email: smurugesan@mail.utexas.edu

Sankaran comes from Pondicherry India and received his doctorate in chemistry from IIT Madras for hydrogen storage in carbon materials. At UNR he developed a robust route to synthesize visible light active photocatalysts for hydrogen generation. He joined the Stevenson group at UT in 2009, where he works on loading of multi-metal nanoparticles on carbon nanomaterials for energy storage and conversion applications.

Dr. Anthony Dylla

B.S. Chemistry, Minnesota State University, Mankato (2004)
Ph.D. Chemistry, University of Maryland (2009)

Email: adylla@mail.utexas.edu

Tony did his PhD work on the synthesis, characterization and catalytic applications of bimetallic nanoparticles with Professors Walker and Eichhorn at the University of Maryland. In his spare time he reads, cooks, plays guitar terribly, runs distances in the 5k-10 mile range and trys to avoid disgruntled motorists on his bike.
Dr. Marisa Sheffer

B.Sc.  Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2000)
M.Sc. Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2003)
Ph.D.  Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2008)

Email: marisa.sheffer@mail.utexas.edu

Marisa comes from Jerusalem, Israel. She did her PhD work on the investigation of electron transfer processes and surface modifications with scanning electrochemical microscopy, under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Mandler.  When she is not in the lab she enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her kids.

Graduate Students

Alan May

B.A. Chemistry, Trinity University (2004)
B.A. Economics, Trinity University (2004)

Email: ramay@mail.utexas.edu

Alan comes from Waco, TX and received his B.S from Trinity University in San Antonio. Alan is studying the development of new analytical methodologies using Spectroscopic Ellipsometry.  When not in lab he enjoy sports, and is a member of the UT Grad Rugby team.

Jaclyn Wiggins-Camacho

B.A. Biology-Chemistry, Scripps College (2004)

Email: jwigginscamacho@mail.utexas.edu

Originally from Davis, CA, Jaclyn received her BA from Scripps College in 2004 where she worked on the PILS system in Dr. Katie Purvis-Roberts' lab.  After spending two years in Boulder, CO she joined the Stevenson group in 2006.  Jaclyn works with carbon nanotubes and is working on tuning and understanding their fundamental properties for use in energy storage/conversion devices.  When she’s not in the lab, she enjoys reading, baking, watching movies and spending time with her husband and cats.

Cori Atkinson

B.S. Environmental Chemistry, University of California, San Diego (2004)

Email: coriatkinson@mail.utexas.edu

Cori is from Los Altos, CA.  She completed her BS in Environmental Chemistry at the University of California, San Diego in 2004.  Cori remained in San Diego for a couple years working for D-Max Engineering, a small environmental consultancy firm focused on the quality of local stormwater runoff.  She joined the Stevenson group here at UT in 2006, where she works on the synthesis and characterization of metallic nanoparticles on carbon and other electroactive support materials.  Outside of research, Cori enjoys running and triathlons, and explaining that Burning Man is not at all the same thing as Birmingham.

Nick Delone

B.S. Chemistry, Texas Tech University (2007)

Email: n.delone@mail.utexas.edu

Nick grew up in Alamogordo, NM and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where in 2007 he earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. While at Texas Tech University he worked in Dr. Carol Korzeniewski’s lab, where he probed the hydration of Proton Exchanged Nafion membranes by Infrared Spectroscopy.  After graduation he worked for Advanced Concepts and Technologies – International, Research & Analytical Laboratories (ARAL). As a chemist for ARAL, Nick was doing wet chemistry working on water samples including testing for chlorinated pesticides and using GCMS as well as GCECD. He also helped with trace metal analysis via ICP-MS and helped out in the Microbiology lab when needed, processing samples from municipal water utilities, where they tested for E. coli and Cryptosporidium. After nearly a year working there, he decided to pursue a Ph.D.  In the Stevenson group, Nick will be studying nanomaterials for energy storage.

Katie Walker

B.S. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Universiyt of Texas at Dallas (2007)

Email: erinkatewalker@mail.utexas.edu

Katie grew up near Eustace, TX.  She attended the University of Texas at Dallas where she received her BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2007.  While at UTD, Katie worked at the NanoTech Institute under the supervision of Dr. Steve Collins and Dr. Ray H. Baughman.  Katie was responsible for the NanoTech Institute’s thermal and mechanical analysis instruments (Perkin Elmer DMA 7e, Diamond DSC, and Pyris 1 TGA) for which she provided maintenance, training, and sample processing.   At UTD, Katie also worked in Dr. Paul Pantano’s lab where she addressed the importance of materials characterizations in the assessment of inherent cytotoxicity of single-walled carbon nanotubes.  At UT, Katie works with the Stevenson and Vanden Bout labs to investigate cyanine dye J-aggregates as photoexcitable templates for nanostructure formation.  Outside of lab, Katie enjoys watching sci-fi shows, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Jake Goran
